I had tried to stop smoking a lot of times, but I failed every single time. Now, I’m obviously seeing its effects on my life and health. It’s bothering me in various ways:
- There are some stains appearing on my teeth. That’s definitely because of cigarettes.
- It wastes my time. When I wake up, I spend at least an hour just sitting in the kitchen, drinking coffee and smoking. It’s preventing me from starting my daily routine! Also, when I go to the university to work, I take a lot of smoking breaks. Sometimes, these breaks get really long.
- It affects my breathing system. There’s always slime in my lungs and throat. Also, it’s reduced my lungs’ capacity. So, it bothers me while doing sport.
I see these effects and still can’t stop smoking. It’s ridiculous.
Ok I will try again. After running out of tobacco, I won’t buy any more. I opened a new pack today. So, probably it will finish after 2-3 days. Let’s see what will happen after that.
I expect to feel bad-tempered and anxious in the following days. Still I have to resist. I’ve seen that I may have the same feelings if I don’t eat or sleep properly. So, I have to take extra care of my sleep routine and my meals.
But it makes it even harder. Because I’ve got used to smoking cigarettes while waiting for my food to cook. What should I do now? Just sit in the kitchen and do nothing? That’s impossible. It can be a better idea to study Duolingo while waiting for my food to get ready. If I’m not in the mood for Duolingo, I can get my laptop to the kitchen and do my regular works, or even write a blog post. This way I can write more and improve my English skills.
By the way, whenever I want to quit smoking, I’m not sure if I should suddenly stop it, or I should decrease it gradually. I currently smoke ~15 cigarettes per day. Should I decrease it to 5 (e.g.) first? I don’t know. I prefer to quit it all at once. I’ll feel like shit for a week and then everything will be fine. HOPEFULLY!
I haven’t had a day without smoking during the last 2 years. It looks impossible not to smoke during a day. So, if I quit smoking for just one day, still it can be considered a big move. Damn! I’ve really forgotten how was the life without cigarettes. I’ve forgotten how to live without them. That’s like oxygene for me. =))
