As I said, one of my friends encouraged me toward using German language even though I might make some mistakes while doing so. So, I just started to use it more and more. It’s actually becoming fun.
Most of the times, when the conversation gets a little complicated I panic and switch back to English. But I’m also making progress in such cases. For example, when I wanted to order something at the coffee shop in the university, the old lady asked “War das alles?” and I couldn’t understand what she says. It happened a few times and each time I got embarassed and asked “Sorry what?” :)) But now I can get it and won’t panic like the first times if she asks that again.
Also, my flatmates started to talk to me in German after seeing I’m trying to do so. Still, it’s hard for me to catch the meaning of all of their sentences because they normally talk too fast or in a specific dialect. But I’m getting better and better. Last night, I could understand one of them telling the other one “Majid wird immer deutscher” which means “Majid is getting more and more German”. It felt so good to hear that. 😀
By the way, I took the German placement test a few weeks ago. According to results of this test, we will be assigned to the right German course. To be honest, I cheated a little bit, but not too much. I think my reason for cheating was valid. By cheating, I mean searching for a grammar rule that I couldn’t remember in Google. I received the placement test result the day before yesterday. I was assigned to DaF 6 level, which is equivalent to B1.2. That might be a little bit too advanced for me. I hope it goes well any way.
All of these were about MPI’s language course. There are some other language courses provided by ISZ. The downside of MPI’s courses is that they are online, and the time of this DaF6 course is on one of my classes. So, there’s a probability that I take ISZ’s course. Its courses are in-person, and are in the evening when there are no other university lectures. But I have to take another placement test for that. 🙁 This time, I won’t cheat. I hope to get the same result. Let’s see!
